Two other contractors quoted a full tear-off on our 1926 slate. These guys spent three hours on the roof, came back with photographs of every valley and said the slate had forty years left and the copper did not. They relined the valleys and re-flashed both chimneys. It has been two winters and it is dry.

Our board had budgeted for a membrane replacement on the flat section. They surveyed the parapet first and found the coping joints were the actual leak. Fixed that, patched two seams, and told us the roof itself had eight or nine years left. They saved us a very large assessment.

I asked about a roof coating because a salesman had been at the door. They explained exactly what it would do to the slate and refused the job, then gave me a written repair scope for a fraction of what the coating would have cost. Honest people, and the repair work was neat.

A big limb came down onto our rear slope in a nor'easter. They tarped it the same evening with sandbags rather than screwing battens through the slate, which I did not know was a thing. Permanent repair a few weeks later matched so well I cannot find it from the yard.
